Saratoga Student leads a “Musical Journey through East and West” with American and Chinese “Flutes” |

 Saratoga, CA - Sept. 23, 2008 - A Saratoga High School Student of Indian and Chinese descent, Aaron Garg, will be performing a solo debut "A Musical Journey Through East and West" on Sept. 28th at McAfee Center, Saratoga High School. He will be accompanied by California Youth Chinese Symphony (CYCS – http://www.uscycs.org) conducted by internationally renowned musician Mr. Jian Ding. Mr. Ding led a bay area group of young musicians from California at the Beijing Olympics Kick-off events in Aug. 2007. Aaron Garg was one of the lead musicians that performed solo and as part of the Orchestra conducted by Mr. Ding in Beijing, China.
Program highlights:
Flute Solo: Fantaisie Pastorale Hongroise (Doppler)
Piccolo Solo: Concerto in C major (Vivaldi)
A Musical fusion with Chinese instruments (Dizi, Bawu, Hulusi, etc)
CYCS Instructor Ensemble: Cultures Around China
CYCS Orchestra: Full Moon, Radetzky March

It has a mission of promoting musical diversity and enriching cultural lives of our communities by introducing Chinese traditional music and instruments. It provides high quality and diversified education on Chinese traditional instruments and creatively integrate East-West music using both Chinese and Western instruments. Currently CYCS has about 100 students in its instrument training and orchestra programs. Members of CYCS have been very active in performing for the community such as in Moon Festival, Fundraiser for the Home of the Elderly – San Mateo and NBC Olympic Viewing Party. CYCS is currently the only organization authorized by the China Central Conservatory of Music to host Chinese Instrument Standard Grade Examination in the United States and the first examination will be held in November 2008.
