No more splinters for Saratoga students after benches are restored |

Imagine picnic tables so worn down that insects have begun to bore holes in them, creating a less-than-ideal place for eating, working or playing. Now imagine that some of your children may be the ones using those tables for those necessary purposes.
Luckily, those days are over. J. Barnes Construction and a team of parent-volunteers donated a weekend of time and effort to restore 20 picnic tables at Saratoga Elementary School on Nov. 10 and 11.
Laura Tillett, president of the Parent Teacher Association at the school, along with fellow parent Sarah Okuno, organized the event after being approached by the Barnes family, which recently moved to the area and have a child attending Saratoga Elementary.
Tillett said that just two days into the school year, the family approached her asking what they could do to help.
