Dale Allen

Dale Allen, age 89, died at home Wednesday, August 27, following a brief illness. Born in Cedar
Bluffs, Nebraska, his farming family moved to Hopkinton, Iowa when he was 12. Dale is pre-deceased by his parents, Osie and Lindley, as well as his three brothers, Charlie, Roy and Ralph Allen. Graduating from Lennox Jr. College in "Hop Town" in 1939 and the University of Arizona in 1941 with a Bachelors Degree in Education, Mr. Allen taught for only one year before he was drafted into the Army. His service was "state-side", at Camp Pinedale, in Fresno, CA where he was a classification Specialist who attained the rank of Staff Sgt. Before his discharge in 1945.
After completing graduate work at the Univ. of Arizona, Mr. Allen began his 32 years as a teacher and counselor in the Stockton Unified School District. His service included 9 years at Edison Sr. High School, 22 years at Daniel Webster Jr. High and 1 year at Franklin Sr. High School. During retirement Mr. Allen took a job at the California Youth Authority administering G.E.D. Testing. When not working, he and wife, Bonnie, enjoyed bowling in a "SIRS" League, traveling-which usually included camping, and tending a productive garden at their home each summer.
While his children were growing up, Dale was active as a Coach in Western Little League, as well as the Babe Ruth League, member of the Men's Group at St. Paul's Methodist and member of the California Teacher's Association. In retirement he was an active member of the local chapter of the California Retired Teachers Association, involved with the Scholarship Committee.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Bonnie Allen, daughter Carol Kezar, son Larry Taylor and grandson Christopher Kezar, Dale is survived by these children: Barbara Evans of Acampo, Steve Allen of Moscow, Russia, and Ron Allen and Roger Allen both living in Stockton, Dale had 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as "Grandpa Allen".
Most recently Dale had a group of very dedicated caregivers, whose help allowed him to remain at his home. It is the family's wish to extend our deepest thanks to these incredible folks, as well as our condolences. He will certainly be missed by all of us.
Burial will be privately held. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating the life of Dale Allen at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2220 W.
