Janice Nickles
Ruth left us to be with Jesus, peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2008, after a very courageous two year battle with cancer. Her entire family was at her bedside. Ruth was born to Floyd and Eleanor Williams, in San Francisco, Ca., later moving to Fresno, Ca., graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1948. It was during this time that Ruth met the love of her life, Wally from Reedley, Ca., at a Bible camp in Mt. Herman. Wally and Ruth married on August 19, 1950, in a double wedding with her sister in Fresno. They went north to Seattle, Wa., for a short time and then to Menlo Park, Ca., for a few years before settling in Sunnyvale, Ca., to raise the family. While in Sunnyvale, she was active in starting Trinity Baptist Church, while also working full time at Paul's Draperies and raising her two sons. They went to Redding, Ca., in 1979, to start a semi-retirement, later coming back to Sunnyvale and then Santa Clara, Ca., until 1989, when they moved to Coarsegold, Ca. Ruth made an immediate impact joining her new church and was devoted to it. She was instrumental in developing the Women's Ministry program and served on the church board. After almost 19 years in Coarsegold, Wally and Ruth made the difficult decision to leave because of Ruth's ill health and moved to San Jose, Ca. Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Verne Wallace "Wally" Nickles, just shy of 58 years of marriage; two sons; Douglas and his wife Leesi of Thousand Oaks, Ca., and their children, Rebekah, Jesse and Emily; and Randall and his wife Lynn of San Jose, Ca. Also surviving are two sisters, Lucille Olson and her husband Gerald of Reedley, Ca., and Elizabeth Sturdivant and her husband Bill of Lynden, Wa. A Memorial Service will be held at Yosemite Lakes Community Church (43840 Patrick Avenue, Coarsegold, CA., http:--ylccots.org-) on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be made to the or the Yosemite Lakes Community Church Women's Ministry.
