As the pint-size San Jose Sharks, carrying hockey sticks that almost dwarfed their bodies, lined up to slice onto the giant slab of ice, moms maneuvered toward their daughters with the zeal of paparazzi.

"They are so sweet," cooed Diana Sunshine, gazing out on her darling 7-year-old, Zoe Onderdonk. But then Mom piped up and roared, "Hey, Zoe! Good job, sweetie — kick some ass!"
